[Current Mood | giddy]

My little sister is in Paris, France visiting a friend. I thought I would add the France on there considering we used to live in Texas. Anyways, any places she should hit up? I'm guessing she probably already knows what's she doing and she's with a friend that's going to college there, so I'm sure they'll be doing lots of fun things together. Is there anything awesome that I should have her get for me on my behalf?

I probably should have her take a photo or two at the Two Windmills. ;)

[Current Mood | excited]

It's official!

Dave and I are going to Chicago together the first week of June. It'll be my third visit and his first and I'm so excited to be there for longer than three days. We're staying with my sister in her apartment and we're saving moneys in order to live it up there for a week. Do you have any recommendations? I know I've asked in the past, but perhaps there are awesome things happening the week of May 31-June 7. I mostly want to hang out and do some tourist-y things, but not really be a tourist. I just want to take it all in and not try too hard.

We're going to try and see a Cubs game, but we'll see what actually happens with that. I want to go to Krispy Kreme, make Dave try White Castle, sandwiches at Jimmy John's, drink tea at Argo Tea and probably find a good local place that has a tasty deep dish pizza. There's also this great Chinese place close to my sister's apartment that is so delicious that we'll have to eat there too. We like to eat! There's much planning in the works. So very exciting, oh yes! Totally can't wait.

P.S. Anyone want to drive us to Sonic? That would be awesome!

P.P.S. I have a sad confession to make and that is I like fast food, but I don't like it all of the time, but there are times that I crave it. I certainly didn't eat it everyday growing up. But there are times when I want fries and nothing but fries will do. I have ventured into the world of making my own "fast food" at home and that's pretty great too. I do miss myself some Chik-Fil-A though, so thank god for MorningStar Farms chik'n nuggets!

[Current Mood | anxious]

I finally got a day off of work, technically two, but one is unpaid, so I'm going to visit my sister in Chicago. I'm leaving in the afternoon on October 26 and coming home late on the 29th. I asked for this time off weeks ago, but haven't written it down here yet. I'm always really stressed about traveling, so perhaps in delaying writing about it, I'm delaying the anxiety I'm sure is going to come very soon. Well, I'm already in full anxiety mode right now, but that's over other things.

& another thing, I've been traveling around so much lately that it's strange that I've been in Boston for this long. I did go to Chicago for four days to move my sister in over a year ago, but I haven't been back home to Texas in so long. I miss my dog and my cat and I really want to see my grandma even though I know that she'll just annoy me when I'm home, but whatever. I really hate that having a job means you can never see your family again. Like, I have NO time off. I got one day off this year! ONE! For my birthday. That I'm taking off to go see my sister. I don't know. Thinking about this makes me depressed.

Now, off to work. Grr!

Okay, I don't know if anyone knows, but I've always wanted to go to Chicago. My reasons are a little silly, yes -- *coughbillycorgancough* -- but over the years my yearning for Chicago has become quite large. I've passed through the airport once, but that was not enough. Well, I don't have to wait any longer because I am going to Chicago! I will be there from August 24 - August 28! The reason I'm going is that my sister is going to art school there. Hooray for sisters!

I might be able to add another subway to my list.

[Current Mood | exhausted]

I was talking to my friend Numidas ([info]lemonediscream) about visiting her in New York city. She suggested I come visit her for her birthday and I agreed. So I hopped on a Greyhound on Friday, August 11. I was a bit frightened about going on the bus by myself, but it ended up being a lot of fun. Since there were so many people waiting in line going to New York, there had to be two buses and I got on a luxury bus. How lovely! It's too bad my CD player ran out of batteries about 30 minutes into the ride, so I was left to sleeping and looking out the window. I didn't take too many pictures, because I'm a bit shy sometimes about taking them in crowded places and since NYC is always crowded...

Friday, August 11: Numidas took me to Kenka, this small & busy Japanese restaurant. I ordered these fried potato cakes and a green tea milk shake. I am pretty sure I could eat here everyday. Then we went back to her apartment in Brooklyn. Her apartment is so large and pretty and right across from the Brooklyn Library.

Saturday, August 12: The very first thing we did today was go to a local farmer's market and pick up some delicious chocolate milk and apple cider donuts. Then we got Numidas a library card and oohed & ahhed at all the movies. We went to so many places today, including a trip to the Japanese bakery, Japanese bookstore (Do you sense a theme?), the Nintedo store and a little too much excitement over finding a Pret-a-Manger! After all that, we went to a BBQ in New Jersey that her brother was holding and I had two veggie burgers, potato & macaroni salad and lots & lots of watermelon! I was so hungry. I got to meet both of her cats, Chewy & Little Guy, and it made me miss my Tuffy kitty and Eddie dog. Today was so busy. NYC is totally overwhelming because I never know where to look. I don't want to miss anything!

Chewy!

Sunday, August 13: I got to witness my first Mass, dropped by a garage sale and had quite the brunch at IHOP. After all that, we went to the mall, where we spent too much time in Delia's and walked out without a single thing. We also got smoothies and had some laughs at KB Toys. Then we caught the bus back to New York and went grocery shopping. Hooray for Amy's cheese enchiladas and Archway Frosty Lemon cookies!

Monday, August 14: Today was Numidas's birthday and we were supposed to make a cake together, but what ended up happening was drinks at the Tea Room and dinner at Dojo. I also got very lost around Columbus Circle for several hours. I went walking away from that area and ended up on a street that I heard someone explain as "Hobo Central." So that was fun!

Tuesday, August 15: I woke up at 8am to go back to Port Authority to catch my 10am bus back home. There was a very loud little child on the bus and a movie playing on the bus that everyone could hear! All I wanted to do was sleep. We stopped at a Roy Rogers/Sbarro and the bus driver seemed to know it well. "Excellent biscuits and fried chicken and a great restroom for the ladies!"

Overall, NYC is total sensory overload!

[Current Mood | hot]

I've been up since 7:30am (1pm-ish, Rome time) and I'm starting to feel a bit woozy. We arrived home to a very hot apartment. We got home at about 10:45pm last night. Our Venus Flytrap, Jerry, died while we were gone, but our other plants Midori & Andre are just fine. We are slowly unpacking. We barely bought anything in Europe, other than bottles of water and food. I have about 200+ photos that I don't like very much -- too touristy -- but I will post them up soonish. I think I would like to visit London again. It's so easy to be vegetarian there. I can eat at almost any restaurant and it's all identified with a V for vegie. I would move there just so I can eat at Pret A Manger everyday. (Thanks [info]randomposting!) I didn't much care for Rome, perhaps I'm crazy, but I don't find almost getting run over by cars & vespas every time you cross the street very romantic. There are other problems too, but I'll elaborate later.

I went to the post office today to pick up our mail and they said there was none! Not even junk mail. That can't be right. There is something wrong with the post office here. I'm getting tired of complaining to people over the phone all the time. I haven't been keeping track here on lj, but we had problems with Dave's passport, Planned Parenthood sent me pills in the mail that never arrived (this was over a month ago and I'm still dealing with it!) and probably some other things I'm forgetting.

All the posters are falling off the wall because of the humidity. I miss the air conditioning of our hotel room. The end for now.

[Current Mood | worried]

Dave & I are going to London, England & Rome, Italy. We leave on June 10th (Saturday) from Boston and arrive in London in the morning hours on the 11th (Sunday at 8:30am). We leave the morning of the 13th (Tuesday) for Rome and come back to Boston on the 19th (Monday). We're staying in a hostel in London and I'm not sure of the arrangements in Rome. (We're meeting my parents there). The reason we're going is to see my sister graduate from high school. She goes to a boarding school in Rome.

Any suggestions for things to must-see/do?

[the second visit] [Dec. 6th, 2005|08:39 pm]

[Current Mood | *cough cough*]

The second time I went to NY was to see my sister's art exhibit at The New School/Parson's. This trip was short & sweet, especially since we got to go to a Japanese dessert store by MoMA. We also hit up a huge Japanese bookstore and I read about the famous dog, Hachiko, in the children's section (in English), I'm a bit rusty on my Japanese. It also made me want to stock up on Sanrio & Japanese stationary, but alas, I left with none.

I really enjoyed this trip so much more than the first one. It might have been the absense of my (doesn't konw he's) controlling Dad, who wanders and wanders and plays by the rules a little too much. I like getting lost.

[Current Mood | hopeful]

I had my first visit to New York this year. I only stayed for three days and got all sorts of lost trying to find anything interesting. Does anyone know where SOHO is? My mom and I went walking on the last day we were there and found one of the Jacques Torres Chocolate Shoppes. I got some spicy hot chocolate -- mmm mmm!! You might remember him from his cooking show on PBS called Dessert Circus. His chocolate is beautiful. And I have a thing for French accents.

We went to the Brooklyn Museum to see the Jean-Michel Basquiat exhibit. It was excellent timing because my sister had to write a report on him for her History of Art class. In fact, the whole reason we were visiting NY was that my sister had applied for summer classes at Parsons School of Design. She took an art class.

A boring 30-second video of an interesting fountain.

We stayed in the Embassy Suites Hotel on the waterfront in Lower Manhattan's Battery Park area.

My sister, Sarah, doesn't look like me!

I left New York after this visit feeling a bit disappointed. I had no idea where I was going and we had no real plans. I did stop into a few H&M's and got lost in the giant Toys R Us, but nothing overly exciting.
