I really needed to get out of Boston. It's weird feeling stuck here and going to see my sister was the right thing to do. I can't believe I hadn't seen her in over a year!
Friday, October 26: There were these two girls (probably not girls, young women, in their twenties) sitting next to me in the airport waiting for the plane to board. They were reading one of those celebrity gossip magazines and they kept pointing to people and talking about them. (It was frustrating, because I was facing away from them, so I could hear every single word they said, but I had no idea who they were talking about). Like, "Eww. Her lips are huge!" and then they made fun of Anna Chlumsky's name for about five minutes saying that she JUST HAD TO CHANGE IT! "Why would you keep a name like that? Eww!" Then because I have the best luck ever, they were sitting in front of me on the plane and when they saw the seatbelt, they exlaimed, "Oh gosh, why is it like this? Oh, it's for fat people!" They laughed and laughed. "Oh, you're so skinny, it hardly fits!"
Anyways, I slept the entire way on the plane. I was sitting next to this woman who asked if it was okay to put up the armrest between us, because well, let's face it...she was a bit hefty...and I didn't mind or rather, she didn't really give me a choice. She asked, and then did it. I kept waking up though. I think I was snoring.
It was super easy to finding the subway in the airport and I waited for Sarah and her roommate, Zoey, to come pick me up. It was a really long train & bus ride and we stopped for bubble tea at Beboba as planned. I had a milky almond tea. After we got back on the bus (we had to hide from the rain!) we went back to Sarah's apartment and decided what we wanted for dinner. We got Thai from Joy's Noodles and Rice. I had the vegetable rolls and steamed vegetables with tofu. Everything was super delicious! We ended the night with some Mario Party on the GameCube.
Saturday, October 27: We tried to go to get brunch at Ann Sather, but sadly, the place was super crowded, so instead we stopped at Treasure Island Food Mart for groceries and made cinnamon buns, scrambled eggs and veggie sausage. I also bought a caramel apple for later!
Since it was supposed to rain today, we decided to go to the movies. We saw The Darjeeling Limited! We all liked it. But it was one of those movies where there isn't a lot to talk about after you see it. But I'm still thinking about it now. Afterwards, we realized that we could have done outside things, because it was after 4pm and there was no rain. Oh well. Sarah took me to the Threadless store, where I bought a shirt for Dave, and Zoey (Sarah's roommate) treated us to some delicious drinks at Argo Tea. Mmm Mate Latte! We went home, played more GameCube and I ate leftovers.
Sunday, October 28: Everyone woke up late, so we rushed out of the house, so we could go to an Indian buffet. Sarah really wanted Zoey to go, because she had never eaten Indian food before. We went to Viceroy of India and all enjoyed the buffet, but it wasn't anything special. Sarah and I were disappointed by the lack of samosas on the buffet. After we ate, we got lost finding the bus we wanted, ended up on the wrong bus and finally got to Wicker Park, where I went to Quimby's and spent $20 on zines and comics. We stopped in The Brown Elepant and Zoey & Sarah ate ice cream from Cold Stone. Then we went home, played more GameCube and I ate leftovers again.
Monday, October 29: Zoey had to go to class today, so she couldn't come with us, but since Sarah doesn't have any Monday classes, we woke up late and went to Ann Sather for lunch and ate breakfast. I had a Mexican Burrito and it was okay. Then Sarah took me to the giant Brown Elepant close to her apartment, where we oohed & ahhed over a snack machine that was for sale for $400! I've always wanted my own snack machine. Alas, I only walked away with a 50 cent magazine and found some shoes for Sarah. Then I made Sarah take me to Argo Tea again so I could try the Pumpkin Chai -- delicious! -- we went home and I finished packing, while Sarah did some homework. Then we took the long bus ride/train ride back to the airport and we said goodbye and here I am back in Boston itching to go back to Chicago.
Observations: I've only been to Chicago twice, both short stays, but each time I'm there, I think that these people are so nice. So different than the mean people that I have to encounter every single day in Boston.
I feel like there's more I could write about this trip, but I'll save that for another post. |
